          After Action Review
          Executive Summary
theater operations, monitor dormant contracts, and provide
for contingency missions worldwide. The experiences of
establishing large scale logistical operations in the absence
of an infrastructure would not be lost in the reduction of
defense activities. Instead, the lessons learned from these
experiences would be the basis for establishing a theater in
          any part of the world.

             b. As a result of "Transition to Closeout" developments,
the DCG-LOG became the DCG ARCENT (fWD) on 1 Nov. with the
intention to take command of ARCENT (FWD) in Jan 92. His
presence was to ensure efficient execution of the transition
          plans.

          7. During this period, the 22nd Support Command continued to
test and validate many concepts which were theory prior to
the operations. Some of them have been mentioned in the
previous AAR but bear mentioning again:

             a. Host nation support was critical to the success of
our operations as it will be in all future operations. In
addition to the use of its ports, airfields, warehouses, and
materiel handling equipment, the Government of Saudi Arabia
provided bulk fuel, food, additional transportation assets,
water, shelters for troops and equipment, laundry and
latrine-shower facilities. Such support was a team effort
and vital in sustaining the health, welfare, and readiness of
          our soldiers.

             b. The success of the Army's logistic effort is a credit
to the effectiveness of the Total Force. This is true
especially in light of the fact that 70 percent of Army
logistic units are in the reserve components. Army Reserve
and National Guard soldiers provided their much-needed and
often unique capabilities with professionalism and
dedication. They interacted with the active components
smoothly to accomplish the most complex missions. Their
performance proved that the reserve component soldiers have
the ability to transfer civilian job skills into the logistic
          support arena.

             c. Care of the soldier remained our number one priority.
Great efforts were made to assure that redeploying personnel
were taken care of in terms of providing for their survival
needs as well as their comfort and morale. A particular
favorite was the "Wolfmobile" fast food trailers, which were
placed in each assembly area. Other comfort and morale
improvements were provided as time and resources allowed.
Morale, Welfare, and Recreation items were placed in all
          assembly areas.

             d. The command's redeployment effort produced results
ahead of schedule with airflow and ship departures moving
