                c. Principle Use.

                   (1) Self Aid. If you experience most or all of the mild
symptoms of nerve agent poisoning you should stop breathing and
put on your protective mask. Then administer one set of the MARK
I into lateral thigh muscle or buttocks. Wait 10 to 15 minutes
after giving yourself first set of injectors since it takes that
long for the antidote to take affect. If you know who you are
and where you are, you will not need a second set of MARK I
injectors. A buddy will have to administer the second and third
set of injectors if needed. m
                    (2) Buddy Aid. If you encounter a service member m
suffering from severe signs of the nerve agent poisoning, render
the following aid. Mask the casualty and administer in rapid
succession, three sets of the MARK I injectors.

           3. Convulsant Antidote for Nerve Agent, (CANA). This is the
nerve agent antidote that is not used as a self-aid. If you
know who you are and where you are, you most likely do not need
           CANA.

                a. Description. The CANA autoinjector can be distinguished
from the MARK I by its clear plastic packaging and black needle
           end.

                b. Issue to Soldier. Each soldier is authorized one CANA
           autoinjector.

                C. Principle Use of CANA.

                    (1) Do not use your own CANA on a casualty.

                    (2) Inject CANA in the same way you inject MARK I.

                    (3) When a fellow soldier needs additional MARK I
injections after having given himself his first injection,
immediately give him the second and third injections and then
           the CANA.

                    (4) If he has not received any MARK I injections, go
give all three-MARK I injections together with his
           CANA.

                    (5) The casualty may need more than one CANA injection;
but only the Combat Lifesaver and Combat Medic have additional
           CANA autoinjectors.

                    (6) Casualty may be given a second and/or third
injection before evaluation by a Combat Lifesaver or a Combat
           Medic.
