                            P      ION AND TREATMENT OF NERVE
                          AGENT AND BIOLOGICAL AGENT POISONING

           1. Nerve Agent Pyridosticrmine Pretreatment Tablet Set, NAPP.
           This is the pretreatment medication to be taken within 8 hours
           or less prior to exposure to nerve agents and use of the MARK 1.
                a. Description. The NAPP consists of 30=g pyridostigmine
           bromide tablets (21 total) which are packaged in a blister
           pack. Each blister pack (NAPP) contains enough tablets for 7
           days (1 taken every 8 hours).

                b. Issue to Soldier. Soldiers are issued 2 sets of NAPP.
           They are responsible for carrying the NAPP and saf @ arding it
           against loss.

                c.  Orders to start taking the NAPP will be issued by the
           proper authority within the chain of command.

                d. Principle use of NAPP.
                    (1) To be maximally effective, I pyridostigmine bromide
           tablet should be taken every 8 hours on a continuous basis prior
           to exposure to a nerve agent until all 21 tablets in the blister
           pack have been taken, or the individual has been directed to
           discontinue taking the medication.
                    (2) The use of pyridostigmine pretreatment medication
           does not change the administration of the MARK I.
                    (3) Do not attempt to give NAPP to a casualty with
           nerve agent symptoms.
                    (4)  As long as the environment is contaminated it is
           desirable to continue the pretreatment.

                    (5)  The NAPP should not be taken during pregnancy.
                    (6)  If a dose is missed DO NOT attempt to make it up.
           Merely start  again with 1 tablet every 8 hours.

           2. Nerve Agent Antidote Kit (Mark I). This is the antidote
           used by the Army and Airforce in treatment of nerve agent
           poisoning.
           a. Description. The MARK I Kit consists of four separate
           components: the atropine, the pralidoxine chloride
           autoin@ector, the plastic, and the form carrying case.

                b. Issue to service Member. In the U.S. Army and the U.S.
           Air Force, each person is authorized to carry three sets of the
           MARK I Kit for the treatment of nerve agent poisoning.
