first dressing station is operational. 101st FSB, Ist ID(M)
coordinates with Lancer Battalion in their sector. 498th FSBI Sd
Bdo coordinates with UK units in their sector.
(9) (U) F Co, 701st MSD will evacuate and treat
non-urgent casualties screened by the clearing companies at the
CSHS. The majority of these soldiers will be expected to Return.
to Duty CRTD) within 72 hours. Some will be battle stress
casualties. The 531st Medical Company (OM) (Psychiatric) will
augment F Co, 701st with a detachment capable of holding 40
battle stress casualties. F Co, 701st MSB must be prepared to
evacuate soldiers from the CSHs in non-medical transportation
assets. Establishment of 160 cots is required. Be prepared to
reconstitute the FSB medical companies as required.
L@ENEMY PRISONERS OF WAR CEPW): Capturing units are
responsib medical care of EPWS. Captured medical personnel
and supplies will be used for this medical care. 818th Medical
Battalion has responsibility for EPW care at FAA JUNCTION CITY.
d. (U) CHEMICAL CASUALTIES: Units must be prepared to
treat chemically contaminated soldiers (see Tab I). Not all
chemical wounds are URGENT. MEDEVAC will not fly into a known
.chemically contaminated area. Field decontamination of the
casualty is the miniwum requirement for ground or air
evacuation. Chemical casualties will be handled in the -Following
fashion:
(1) (U) All suspected and confirmed chemical casualties
W3.Lth or without conventional wounds will be brought to a Chemical
Casualty Collection Point extablished 75 meters downwind from the
Battalion Aid Station (BAS). The unit with suspected or
confirmed chemical casualties will notify the BAS (on the
battalion A&L net) that potentially contaminated casualties are
enroute.
(2) (U) The Chemical Casualty Collection Point, downwind
from the BAS, will be augmented by 4 non-medical soldiers who
will perform patient decontamination under the direction of a
medical NCO. Minimal life saving emergency medical aid will be
provided an the "hot" side of the Chemical Casualty Collection
Point while more extensive medical care is provided on the
.9 ClLan" side. Hasty decontamination will be performed with
M258AI and M291 decontamination kits and dilute calcium
hypochlorite solution (See paragraph 71 and insert 1, Tab I).
(-S) (U) In the event the BAS is contaminated, no attempt
at patient decontamination will be made. Life saving aid will be
provided and the patient evacuated to the next echelon of care as
quickly as possible.
