           At the scene, the fire fighter's attention must be able to be directed
           at responding to the emergency, Unduly complicated equipment or
           equipment that is unfamiliar can often add to the problem.


           All fire equipment must stand up to hard use because, in an
           emergency response situation, care for equipment is a low priority
           concern. Even with hard use, it is imperative that equipment
           function well when it is needed.

           S. SPECIFICATIONS


           This section outlines the technical specifications which a shower
           unit must meet in order to be responsive to the organization's
           requirements.  To facilitate understanding, each of the requirements
           is restated, and the specifications are grouped under the appropriate
           requirement.  The specifications, by requirement, are as follows:

           1. PersQ[)al

                *The shower unit must have a capacity of at )east 60 degree
                temperature rise/gallon/rninute.
                *The output water temperature must be easily and instantly
                variable from equal to the input ambient tet-nperature to the

                *The shower unit must be designed in such a way that the
                flame will neither burn the operator nor adjacent materials.
                *There must be a level switch to turn the heater off if it is
                turned over.
                *The gas must be shut off instantly if the flame is
                extinguished.
