               BIOI.OGICAL WARFARE (BW) IABORATORY CONFIRMATION CAPABILITY
                       IN THE AOR FOR OPERATION DESERT SHIELD (U)

         1.   @ Proposed new BW lab analytical capability to be placed in
         the Army (996th VA) and Navy (Navy Forward Lab) AOR labs are as
         follows:

              a.  @ Definitive isolation and identification of anthrax and
         its antibiotic sensitivity testing.

              b.      Identification of plague
                                                0
              c.      Identification of tularemia by culturing techniques
         (not identified by U.S. Intelligence as a threat agent)

              d. @ Identification of the organism clostridium perfringens
         and not the toxin using culturing techniques

              e. @ Identification of botulinum toxin using animal (mice)
         testing  techniques.

         2.   (U) Requirements

              a.  (U) One 68A, microbiologist

              b.  (U) Two 92B, medical laboratory specialist

              C.  (U) one 64 , vet

              d.  (U) One 91T, animal care specialist

              e.  (U) Incubators, centrifuge, ELISA tests, growth Media, etc.

              f.  (U) Adequate fixed facility to establish operations in the
         AOR.
