COL HASTINGS: I haven't seen it yet.
COL LIST: I'll check. It was done last night.
G-2: Col Lucy and LtCol Brunn flew up to Riyadh this morning.
They will be players there. Col Lucy has an in-call with BGen
Leide this afternoon. They have an intelligence conference
tomorrow, plan to fly back tomorrow by 1900. That's all I have.
COL HILL: Sir, in the 5th MEB sitrep there's mention of the Navy
having problems installing a radio aboard the flag ship, and
estimated completion would be the 8th of February. That piece of
equipment is necessary to give them a WMMCSS capability. It
appears it will be at least a month before they have that
capability on there. I called the NAVCENT N-6 last night, and
they are having some installation problems in being able to
integrate it into the ship system. That's all I have, sir.
COL HASTINGS: Lot of effort expended on that, just getting that
into place, but it's not going to happen?
COL HILL: Not yet.
GEN JENKINS: The Navy had six of those, and we are absolutely
hard other initially about doing anything else. This has been
ongoing since they embarked to come out here. If you solve it,
that will be great; but I'll believe it when I see it.
COL SHOTWELL: Morning, sir. DOD wants to start exercising the
combat correspondent pools in the very near future. It's
supposed to be no notice drills. We think the first one's going
to go on the 7th. What that will involve, they will send us a
group of 18 correspondents - that includes the camera guys and
sound guys, and we will subdivide those into smaller groups and
send them out to units RON. The key is just to see how quickly
we can get them out and get their products back, videotape with
the stories or whatever, but we anticipate at least a couple of
drills over the course of the next week.
GEN BOOMER: Okay. I want to talk to you about that right after
the meeting.
COL SHOTWELL: Secondly, we are starting -- the media are
starting to heavy-up a little bit as we get into the new year.
NBC has brought in Bob McFarlane - this is the guy who was the
bureau chief for NBC in Washington. He's now in country and
would like to meet with you sometime next week. Bruce Vanvoris
(phoenetic), you might remember from Time Magazine; so we are
getting more of those folks are starting to pop up on the scope.
That's all I have, sir.
GEN BOOMER: They can come up to visit.
COL HASTINGS: At this time I'd like to introduce Col Ed Soriano.
He is the team chief for the liaison.
