11TH MARINES OPERATION DESERT STORM SUMMARY OF SIGNIFICANT EVENTS
16 February Battery 'IE" 2/12 (3/11) attached to Task Force (TF) Troy to
support Division deception operations and occupied assembly
area position at grid TM 073 471.
18 February Battery "E" 2/12 participated in combined arms raid with TF
Troy firing four missions destroying bunkers and an
observation tower and marking for air attack on a police
post. Battery fired 76 rounds HE and 2 WP marking rounds.

19 February Operation Desert Storm B-5. lith Marines units continued to
move forward to occupy positions near the southwest corner
of the Saudi-Kuwait border. llth Marines engineers began
preparing revetted and bermed positions near the border to
be occupied by the firing batteries, regimental and
battalion command posts, and logistics trains. Battery "E-0
2/12 conducted two separate artillery raids as part of TF
Troy firing 110 rounds of HE and destroying several
buildings and outposts with secondary explosions reported.
Other specific noteworthy events included:
0615: E/2/12 OCCUPIED FIRING POSITION AT GRID US 805 510 TO CONDUCT ARTILLERY
RAID ON ENEMY COMPOUND. PLAN CALLED FOR BATTERY TO MARK TARGET FOR
AIR, BUT LIMITED VISIBILITY PREVENTED AIR ATTACK. BATTERY FIRED 40
ROUNDS HE DELAY AT 0827 DESTROYING BUILDINGS IN THE ENEMY COMPOUND AT
QS B09 607 WITH NUMEROUS SECONDARY EXPLOSIONS REPORTED. BATTERY
DISPLACED AT 0835 TO RETURN TO ITS ASSEMBLY AREA POSITION.
123@': 5/11 OCCUPIED POSITIONS IN ASSEMBLY AREA NEAR GRID (2S 52 49; MISSION
GENERAL SUPPORT (GS).
1440: E/2/12 RECEIVED FRAGMENTARY ORDER (FRAGO) FROM TF TROY TO CONDUCT RAID
ON POLICE POST ACROSS BORDER AT 1530. BATTERY IMMEDIATELY DISPLACED
AND OCCUPIED FIRING POSITION AT GRID TM 102 506 AT 1610. BATTERY FIRED
70 ROUNDS OF HE AT 1714 ON TWO OBSERVATION POSTS AT GRIDS TM 171 606
AND TM 17? 609, DESTROYING BUILDINGS WITH SECONDARY EXPLOSIONS
REPORTED. BATTERY DISPLACED AT 1715 AND REOCCUPIED ASSEMBLY AREA
POSITION,
2008: 3/12 COMPLETED OCCUPATION OF FIRING POSITIONS AT GRID QS 54 62; MISSION
DIRECT SUPPORT (DS) TF GRIZZLY.

20 February Operation Desert Storm 6-4. llth Marines units continued to
move forward into assembly areas in preparation for the
ground offensive. The engineer effort continued to prepare
improved Positions near the border. Specific noteworthy
events included:
1030: VERBAL FRAGO ISSUED TO 1/12 TO DISPLACE TO VICINITY GRID QS 73 51 IN
