              Prior to G-day, in concert with I MEF's comprehensive targeting
          plan, the division submitted detailed, prioritized target
          nominations to be engaged by JFACC and 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing
          (MAW) air. Beginning Rt G minus 5, the division made Maximum use 0+
          B-52's, Fuel Air Explosives (FAE), two 15,000 pouid bombs, and
          napalm to attack and demoralize those enemy 4orces which could
          directly affect our breaching operation.

                                      NAVAL GUNFIRE


              During January and prior to the ground offensive in February,
          the Naval (3Ltnfire (NGF) sectioi a-F the division FSCC prepared /
          planned for offensive naval gunfire to support lst Marine Division
          operations.

              Several naval gunfire planning meetings were held and attended
          by regimental and battalion NBF personnel. NGF updates were also
          presented during Fire Support Coordination meetings.      I

              Many important NGF issues were discussed and resolved during
          the f4na2 Maritime Planning Conference, 2E3 - 29 January at Camp 15.
          Representatives from senior Navy and Marine Corps commands attended
          the conference.


                                          MEETINGS


              Fire Support Coordination meetings were held periodically
          during the months of January and February. These meetings were
          -Frequently aimed at supporting the latest operations scheme
          envisioned by the division 0-3. In addition to the tas@, force Fire
          Support Coordinators (FSC's), requested attendance included air
          officers and representatives from Ilth Marines and 3rd MAW. Some
          of the meetings were also attended by personnel 4rom VMO-2, MAG-16
          and I MEF.

              Agendas included a variety of issues relevant to fire support:
          current plans; targeting update; naval gunfire update; available
          air resources; and command/control of Marine air. The meetings
          would sometimes include planning sessions in which FSCs would
          explain their task forces scheme of maneuver. FSCs had
