flawless direction, his company destroyed six enemy tanks, three armored
personnel carriers, 15 artillery pieces, and captured 200 enemy
          prisoners.
On G-Day+1, as Captain Hussey prepared his company for continued
offensive operations, the enemy attacked the battalion position with
artillery fire. Captain Hussey expertly displaced his company to a safe
defilade position while ensuring they continued preparations for the
          upcoming attack.
On the afternoon of the attack, with visibility reduced to less than
200 meters by smoke and rain, Captain Hussey's company again led in the
advance toward the battalion's objective. As his company pressed
forward, they became engaged in a tank battle against four T-72 and T-62
tanks in revetments, Captain Hussey aggressively led his company in an
attack destroying the emplaced tanks. By late afternoon, visibility had
further decreased to less than 100 meters. Captain Hussey, using
available assets began directing artillery illumination rounds to be
placed on the ground in front of him to act as guide markers.
Encountering an extensive built up area as he pressed the attack north,
Captain Hussey directed highly effective intense main gun and machinegun
fire to eliminate enemy resistance. This overwhelming attack resulted
in the destruction of seven enemy tanks, ten armored personnel carriers,
and the capture of over 100 enemy prisoners. The success of this battle
permitted the battalion to secure its objective by nightfall and begin
preparations for an expected enemy armor counterattack.
On G-Day+2, Captain Hussey's company was given the mission of leading
the battalion in an attack to an objective south of the city of Al
Jahra. As his company advanced they uncovered a large complex of
occupied enemy bunkers and trenchlines, supported by tanks and armored
personnel carriers. Skillfully using supporting arms to prepare the
battlefield and break the back of the enemy's resistance, Captain Hussey
led his company in overwhelming this numerically superior force.
Overrunning the enemy position, his company destroyed 10 more enemy
tanks and armored personnel carriers and captured an addition 25 enemy
          soldiers.
Upon reaching the outskirts of the city of Al Jahra, Captain Hussey's
company led the battalion in movement to secure a defensive position
adjacent to a six-lane divided highway. This highway served as one of
the main withdrawal routes used by the enemy forces fleeing Kuwait
City. Captain Hussey's company quickly engaged and destroyed more enemy
vehicles as they traveled along this escape route, eventually securing
the highway and blocking the route. After consolidating his company in
the position, Captain Hussey immediately began planning and preparing
the company for an expected enemy mechanized counterattacks as Iraqi
Army units were desperately trying to escape Kuwait.
Throughout offensive operations, in adverse conditions of extreme
wind, rain, fog, and the smoke of burning oil wells, Captain Hussey led
his company in completely overwhelming enemy forces. Continually, he
stood fully exposed to enemy fire as he led and inspired his Marines in
battle. During the three days his company destroyed or captured 40
enemy tanks or armored personnel carriers, 15 artillery pieces and
captured over 350 enemy. His courage and valor in the face of great
personal risk reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping
with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
