                                            NARRATIVE SUMMARY


                                    COMMAND OPERATIONS AND TRAINING


              Batteries "S" and "ti" remain attached to 3d Battalion. 8th Marines and 2d
          Battalion. Oth Marines resoectivelv for LF6F ooerations and will not be
          addressed in this narrative. The month of Februarv opened with the battalion still
          assioned the mission of reinforcing 1-3 FA. Plannina was underway for Operation
          "Tiaer Blitz". This Operation was to be a reconnaissance in force bv Tiaer Brigade
          across the Kuwait border into the "orchard" southeast of the Al-Wafrah oil field.
          1-3 FA would provide direct suoport and 3d Battalion. 10th Marines reinforcing
          fires to 1-3 FA. The commanders and S-3 conducted a reconnaissance of position
          areas and attended sand table exercises between 2 and 3 Februarv. Operation "Tioer
          Blitz" was cancelled bv CENTCOM on 5 February.

              On 7 Februarv the 3d Battalion's tactical mission was chanced to direct Support

          of Sth Marines. The battalion displaced forward to oositions vicinitv of QS 834 343
          as 8th Marines moved north to relieve 6th Marines as the screening force for 2d
          Marine Division. Positions were readjusted the following dav vicinitv QS 889 332
          to suoport the finalized fire plans from Bth Marines. In conjunction with this
          move. a FDC resoonse cell was co-located with 1-3 FA for a one dav CPX of the
          "Tioer Blitz" fire Support plan. On 11 Februarv. the Commandina Officer and S-3
          Conducted a reconnaissance of the battalions final assemblv area alona the south
          western Kuwait border.

          evenina. "A" Command and the firina battery advanced oarties dis.olaced forward to
          locations vicinitv QS 859 470 at 112300C Feb 91. The firina batteries followed with
          Batterv "F" 2/14 disolacino at 112342. Battery "H" 3/12 at 112339 and Batterv "I"
          at 120007. All elements were in olace and ready bv 120509C. Firina commenced at
          120559 and ceased at 120630. Six taroets were encaced, firing 376 DPICM and 192
          RAP. After engagino the final tarcets all elements dis.olaced south and returned to
          positions vicinitv 6S 889 332. These mission reoresented the first rounds "fired
          in anger" bv "Seven for One" during Ooeration "Desert Storm".

              On 14 Februarv the battalion once aaain was involved with ooerations across the
          Kuwait border in the vicinitv of the "orchard" southeast of Al-Wafrah oil field.
          Batterv "I" was repositioned in the vicinitv of TM 097 422 to support First Force
          Reconnaissance Company's Ooeration "Clouseau". This was a reconnaissance of the
          ..orchard" with Batterv "I" to provide fires should an emergency extraction be
          required. The ooeration ended on 17 Februarv without requiring artillery supoort.

              The battalion beoan to disolace to it's final assemblv areas for the oround
          offensive of Oueration "Desert Storm". The "A" Command and firina batterv advanced
          parties departed 0900 on 17 Februarv and occupied Positions vicinitv QS 425 685.
          The "B" Command. Combat Trains. and firino batterv main bodies deoarted the mornino
          of IS Februarv. All elements were in olace by 14@0. In order to suoport an
