23 February Operation Desert Storm 6-1. E/2/12 completed operations
wxth the Division's dec@ption force, TF Troy, and returned
to 3/11's assembly area. Early in the afternoon, 3/12
displaced a battery across the border to better range in
support of TF Grizzly operations with improved conventional
munitions. At 1300, battalion reconnaissance, survey and
advance parties crossed the border to identify and prepare
firing positions. After assuming Mission Oriented Protective
Posture (MOPP) level one, the regimental main CP, 1/12 and
the remainder of 3/12 crossed the border at 1600 to occupy
positions approximately 4 kilometers south of the first
obstacle belt. By 1830, @-0 minutes sooner than planned,
3/12 and 1/12 were firecap ready in position to support TF
Grizzly and TF Taro infiltration-) of the first obstacle belt.
5/11 and 1/11, who had remained in positions just south of
the border unt@l 1/12 and 3/12 were firing capable
(+irecap), displaced across the border by 1900. By 2200,
all four battalions were firecap ready just south of the
firs"" obstacle belt. 3/11 remained in the TF Ripper assembly
area, prepared to follow in trace of TF Ripper through the
first breach. The organization +or combat as all battalions
assumed their preassault positions was:
1/11: DS TF Papa Bear.
3/11: DS TF Ripper.
5/11: GSR 3/11.
1/12: DS TF Taro, an order Rein 1/11.
3/12: DS TF Grizzly.
