               22 February          Operation Desert Storm 13-2. Early in the morning as 1/11
                                    and the Regimental jump CP moved forward to positions along
                                    the border, 1/12 engaged what was believed to be an Iraq,
                                    armored reconnaissance force of 2 tanks and 3 BMPs moving
                                    south just across the border. While awaiting Cobra support,
                                    1/12 destroyed one BMP and turned this force to the
                                    northwest. The engineer effort to improve firing position
                                    areas near the border continued. lith Marines engineers
                                    alsc) participated in cutting numerous wholes in the bermline
order in order to allow the
                                    ground forces to move across the border. As the
                                    regiment occupied final position areas short of the
                                    borde?r. the organization for combat was:

                                    1/1): GS, Priority Calls for Fire IF Shepherd/TF Taro.
                                    3/11% DS TF Ripper.
                                    5/11: GS, Priority Calls for Fire TF Shepherd/TF Grizzly.
                                    1/12: DS TF Taro.
                                    3/12,. DS TF Grizzly.

                                    Just before midnight as TF Grizzly prepared to begin
                                    clearing across -he border, 3/12 and 5/11 fired several long
                                    t-ange missions on the first obstacle belt to destroy some
                                    Iraqi bunkers and psychologically harass the Iraqi
                                    defenders. Because of the large expenditure of Rocket
                                    Assisted Projectiles (RAP) required to support all the TF
                                    Grizzly and the extensive anticipated requirement for RAP
                                    during the ground offensive, Ilth Marines requested that
                                    Division limit RAP expenditure. The Assistant Division
