IITH MARINES OPERATION DESERT STORM SUMMARY OF SIGNIFICANT EVENTS
19 February Operation Desert Storm G-5. Ilth Marines units continued to
move forward to occupy forward positions near the southwest
corner of the Saudi-Kuwait border. llth Marines engineers
reinforced by engineers began preparing revetted and bermed
positions near the border to be occupied by the firing
batteries, regimental and battalion command posts, and
logistic trains. Specific noteworthy events included:
1235: 5111 OCCUPIED POSITIONS IN ASSEMBLY AREA GRID DS 52 49; MISSION GENERAL
SUPPORT (GS).
2008: 3/12 COMPLETED OCCUPATION OF FIRING POSITIONS AT GRID QS 54 62; MISSION
DIRECT SUPPORT (DS) TASK FORCE (TF) GRIZZLY.

20 February Operation Desert Storm G-4. Ilth Marines units continued to
mo,ve forward into assembly areas in preparation for the
ground offensive; The engineer effort continued in the
preparation of ir-roved positions near the border. Specific
noteworthy events included:
1030: VERBAL 'RAGMENTARY ORDER (FRAGO) ISSUED To 1/12 TO DJSPLACE TO VICINITY
GRID DS 73 51 IN ORDER TO SUPPORT IF TARO SCREENING ?WD INFILTRATION
OPERATIONS.
1055: IITH MARINES JUMP COMMAND POST (CP) OCCUPIED POSITION AT GRID
DS 528 469 AND ASSUMED CONTROL OF THE REGIMENT TREBT).
: 1/12 DISPLACED AND OCCUPIED FIRING POSITION GRID DS 73 51; FIRING
CAPABLE (FIRECAP) READY AT 1712; MISSION DS TF TARO.
7???: 1/11 OCCUPIED POSITIONS IN TF PAPA 13EAR'S ASSEMBLY AREA AT (3RID
OS 72 47; MISSION DS TF PAPA BEAR.

21 February Operation Desert Storm (3-3. 3/12 fired for the first time
during the war in support of TF Grizzly who had
reconnaissance forces across the border. 5/11 occupied a
firing position just southwest of the border in preparation
to support the screening and clearing of the? artillery
position areas short of the first Iraqi obstacle belt.
Further south, 3/11 occupied assembly area positions with TF
Ripper, the Division's main effort for the assault breach.
To further prepare the Division for operation in a possible
chemical and biological environment, the Division Commander
directed that all personnel begin taking the Nerve Agent
