both try to do because the world..

LTG AHMAD (I):  As soon as

GEN SCHWARZKOPF (US):  Yeah, th.eW9rld is looking for us to do that
and I think that's a good sign:

LTG AHMAD (I):  We will be. very cooperative in this.

GEN SCHWARZROPF (US):  We have a list of people we call missing in
action (MIA).  We don't know whether they are prisoners or whether
they are in fact under your control or dead somewhere.   We would like
to give you these lists so that you could give us iminediate
information on whether they are prisoners or not under you control.

tTG AHMAD (I):  What do you mean exactly by missing?

GEM SCHWARZKOPF (US):  They are, a. good example would be a pilot who
was shot down and we saw a parachute, but we don't know whether the
man died when he landed or whether he is a prisoner   Another example
would be a soldier who after a battle we did not recover his body but
we have no information whether he is a prisoner or not

LTG AMMAD (I):   To you he is a missing person  To us he is a prisoner
of war or just a dead body which we will handle in both cases.   But
you can be sure we will not keep any person or any body.   We will give
them all back.

GEM SCMWARZKOPF (US):  I understand that, but during the time that it
takes to arrange the exchange of prisoners we would like to know if
you have these people or if not we would like to let their fa:nilies
also know.

LTG AHMAD (I):  We have a number of POWs and we have some bodies, but
some of these dead bodies they have no identification and bodies are
there, but they are unidentified.

GEN SCHWA~ZICOPF (US):  That was the next question I was going to ask
If we could give you this list and you could tell us those people who
are alive and POWs.    If you could then also look a~ this list and give
us the names of anyone who died as a prisoner.

LTG AHMAD (I):  Who is identified?

GEM SCHWARZ~OPF (US):  Yes, who is identified   And then finally, iz
you have any remains that are unidentified that you could return to us
we would like that also

bTG AHMAD (I):  We will give you all.

GEN SC~WARZKOPF (US):  Good.  Wewill give you those lists then before
you leave today and leave it toyouto return the information to~us.

LTG AHMAD (I):   Indeed.
