           APF-,ENEIIX C' TO HEAEICJI-IARTERS 419TH TRANSPORTATION BATTALION AFTER
           ACTION REPCIRT

           HOST NATION Stfi-l@ORT

@ Host Nation Support was utilized in the areas of Dining
Facility Contracts, Local Purchases, and Compound Billeting.'

           FOOD SERVICE CONTRACTS

4@ Consolidated dining facility for the battalion utilized host
nation support in the area Df contractor services. The food
serving and kitchen clean up was contracted to UNECO.

           * Food preparation was done organically by mess sections of the
battalion subordinate company personnel in order to maximize
military occupational skills. This also enabled better usage of
personnel fc-t- mission accomplishment and mission support.

:* Areas of concern were that the menu was still regulated by the
host natiOTt religion, ie. no pork. Varying the fnenu tended to be
a tedious exercise, and required time and negotiation, despite
having the availability of the Army Menu guidelines. The I?
day rnenii originally set fourth by ARCENT lacked variance and
           imagination.

           COP2@@ DIu-Erj[f4G

i* Compound billeting was Provided by host nation. Compounds II,
III, and IV, Dammam P.-.rt were utilized by this battalion.
Although the compounds were adequate in space, any improvements,
repairs, etc., were it)iiibited due t.-. e@:cessive channels which had
to authorize any actions. Repairs utilizing host nation support
           were not usually timely.         inadequacies were never solved;
such as water- pressure, sewage, and problems with insects and
           rodent s.

           LOCAI- PLRCI-IASE

@ Local purchase was the "saving grace" for supply in the Saudi
Arabian theater. T;ie ingenuity kDf the 1,:,cal nationals enabled
the battalion to procut'L many supplies not available through
existing supply channels. Although the items were available in
CONUS, they were not available when needed here. If not for the
..supply system" of host nation, mission accomplishment would have
           been severly hampered.
