SUPPLY
1. GENERAL.
a. Purpose. To provide policy and guidance to ensure that
essential sup@71y support is provided to all Army forces for
which the Third U.S. Army has responsibility. This concept is
applicable to all Army forces and other U.S. services for which
the Army has been designated Executive Agent. Certain support
may also be required for Allied Forces.
b. Policy.
(1) Supply support for U.S. Army forces is an Army
responsibility.
(2) Commanders must conserve resources and ensure
only essential requirements are placed upon the logistic
system.
(3) Interservice/Cross service Support (IS/CS)
Agreements will be implemented as required.
(4) Commanders, at all levels will ensure that CSS is
provided to units within their respective areas of
responsibility.
2. CONCEPT OF' SUPPLY SUPPORT.
a. The Army will normally be designated as the CENTCOM
(Theater Manager) for Class I (including water), Class III
(bulk), Class IV (common materiel), and Class V (common
items). Assumption of this mission will be as specified in
OPLAN.
b. Initial logistical support will be austere.
C. Maximum use will be made of prepositioned supplies and
contingency stocks.
d. Host Nation Support (HNS) will be used to the maximum
extent available.
e. Levels of supply and stockage objectives for each
operation will be in accordance with the appropriate OPLAN.
f. I'hrough-put distribution of supplies will be used to
the maximum degree, consistent with efficient management.
g. Containerization of supplies will be used to the
maximum degree feasible.
