                  1. General. Due to the large number of countries supplying
ammunition to Iraq, it is difficult to determine it any standard
Iraq color coding systems exists. A review of pictures from an
arms display in Bagdad provided a look at color markings on Iraqi
                  manufactured ammunition.

                  4. Physical characteristics of munitions.

                      a. Iraqi projectiles for guns and mortars are generally of
conventional appearance; recoilless gun projectiles resemble those
for mortars. Mortar projectiles are tear drop or cigar shaped
with a grooved gas check band on the body and fixed fins at the
base. Recoilless gun projectiles have either a gas check band or
smooth bourrelet on the body, and shrouded, fixed fins at the
base. Gun projectiles feature one or more well defined, smoothly
machined bourrelets, and either one or more rotating bands on the
body, or an obturator on the body and folded or fixed fins at the
base. Projectiles that do not match the markings in paragraph 2
and 3 above should be handled as chemical munitions. The specific
markings for chemical munitions are not known at this time.
