                 b. Iraqi grenades, including rocket propelled grenades (RPG
series) originate primarily from Soviet block design. Iraq,
however, has modified the RPG-7 series grenade by replacing the
standard HEAT warhead with 60mm and 82mm mortar rounds using set
             back armed mortar fuses.

                 C. As with the rest of Iraqi arsenal, Iraq's conventional
bombs, missiles, mines, and scatterable munitions have been
purchased world-wide. The disposalldestruction of these items
should not be attempted without assistance from EOD personnel.

             5. Disposal/destruction Procedures. The preferred method of
disposal for ordnance items is by detonation utilizing the M-112,
C-4, demolition block as a counter charge to the main explosive
filler. Great care must be taken during these operations to avoid
low order detonations, injury due to fragmentations of the
ordnance, booby-trapped ordnance, or the functioning of the
munition as designed. A positive identification of the ordnance
by type, function and filler must be obtained prior to any
disposal procedure. Failure to properly identify the ordnance
could result in death or serious injury. EOD personnel must be
involved in the identification, collection and disposal of all
foreign ordnance. Care should be taken when handling hand
grenades. Some Iraqi hand grenades may be equipped with Soviet
reverse action fuzing which will cause a detonation with the
safety pin in place when the grenade safety lever is squeezed.
Missles and rockets should only be destroyed by trained personnel
             preferrably EOD.
