            United States foreign policy around the world and found members of

            the battalion working in several locations, from the-jungl.'es of

            South America to the deserts of East Africa. For this effort, the

            battalion was awarded the Army Superior Unit Award by the Secretary

            of the Army. In the fall of 1988, the battalion was again

            nationally recognized with the National Humanitarian Award for its

            cleanup efforts along the Carolinas' coast in the aftermath of

            Hurricane Hugo. Finally, in the spring of 1990, the battalion sent

            a construction company to Honduras to build a base camp and C-130

            airfield in support of the Joint Training Exercise, Ahaus Taras 90.
