1-4 Cav's day began at 0130 hours when they topped off their ncks with fuel. Lieutenant
Colonel Wilson in HQ-66, an M-3 Bradley, took the command group forward at 0400 hours to
inspect the screen. line. B Troop reported @g a T-55 to their front. Coming up to the screen
line, the command group spotted a T-72 and called for a B Troop tank to kill it. It did so
successfully. B Troop then teamed two Bradleys and two MIAl's to search out and destroy
enemy armor Dunng this maneuver, B Troop went to MOPP IV when it began rece@g aroery
fire. Testing showed no chemical hazards. 2nd ACR, who had passed through this area, had not
cl@ it of all enemy in zone.
By 0515 hours, the squadron commander pulled his screen line back until the bulk of his
forces could be brought to bear on the enemy. By 0615 hours, 1-4 Cav began its attack with A
and B Troops on Line. They destroyed numerous T-72's and artillery pieces while cap@ng
several Iraqi soldiers. At 0715 hours, the squadron had reached its LOA @t of advance). It
continued to mop up enemy elements in its zone until 0830 hours when it appeared that all the
enemy were destroye4
The squadron continued its screen of the divisions north flank repeating its success of the
early moniing. At 1330 hours, the commanding genag ordered the division to continue to attack
northeast of PL Berlin (formerly the divisio@s LOA). Tne intent was to cut off Iraqi troops fleeing
north out of Kuwait City. In moving to cut the Basrah - Kuwait City highway, 1-4 Cav lost
communications with division and had to relay information through 2nd Brigade. At
approximately 1630 hours, 1-4 Cav reached and cut the Basrah high@ay. Within two hours, they
y prisoners of war. It soon became apparent that 1-4 Cav was far in front
of the division. In fact, its was the eastem most element of the VH Corps attack. 1-4 Cav asked
for but did not receive additional armor, artillery and infantry reinforcements. Throughout the
night, they re@ed acutely alert. T%ey had over 2000 enemy prisoner's of war and could h=
enemy armor columns moving north. With resources pushed to their absolute @ts, 1-4 Cav
@y maintained control of the situation.
