4 FEB: EH60A aircraft from D-227 conducted a QUICKFIX
mission for 312 MI Bn. A UH-1 from E-227was dispatched to
DREAR to transport an EOD team to DIVARTY to dispose of
several LAW rockets which had been damaged in a fire. An AH64
from 1-3 Atk Hel Bn had a mishap vic PS 8950255 at 2223
hrs. The aircraft remained upright, damage occured to the wing
and pylon. @lhe crew was uninjured.
5 FEB: 'he Brigade began painting inverted "Vlsll on
vehicles IAW anti-fratricide instructions. Orange VS-17
panels were being fabricated at 43d CSG. The unit also -
received 1 CAV FRAGO #91-18 (Breach Sand Table Exercise). An
OH58D (#697) made a precautionary landing; the cause was later
determined to be mast aid engine over-lorque.
6 FEB: Received message on French helicopter markings. A
white vertical stripe on the nose and three white stripes on
the tailboom and belly of the aircraft would mark it as
friendly. (This was important since the Iraqi.army possessed
French-built aircraft).
1-3 Atk Hel Bn conducted a leader's recon out to PL
KANSAS.
A message from Division directed that all protective mask
filters would be changed NLT 15 FEB. Significant shortage
items in the Brigade during this timeframe: M43 protective
masks (the AH64 cannot fly NVG or HDU with the M24 mask);
laser visors (a significant laser t.qreat to aircrews existed);
ALQ-144A (needed to defeat SA-9, SA-14 and SA-16 missiles);
the UH60A IR suppression system (needed to defeat SA-7, SA-9,
4 and SA-16 missiles); the APR-39AVI (to identify and
prio-i@ize eqemy ADA radars); and the Extended Range Fuel
syst;m@4.or selected UF60's and AH64'S (providing 3x station
-lime or -.x range to target).
7 FEB: informed that 174 sets ol body armor departed Fort
Hood for Avn Bde with an in-coun@lry E@,A of 8 FEB.
8 FEB: 1-3 Atk Hel Bn test-fires HELLFIRE missiles at
Jayhawk Range. Two riissiles were launched from 5600m. One
scored a hit, the second missile left the launch rail and was
lost. A third aircraf- was unable to fire due to dust; it
later fired and scored a hit from 6000m.
9 FEB: Avn Bde received an c/o mission to screen along
Axis ASP during hours of darkness, to facilitate tracking of
enemy .@orces. PLH64's would be used for this mission. 1-227 Atk
He! Bn test-fired one HEL'-F!R@- and 100 rdS 30MM. Another
aircraft was unab:e to fire due to TADDS failure. Rece @ved a
