spot report from !St Bde concerning several EPW who stated
that the enemy was starting to carry protective masks all the
time. Units were instructed to report any sigh-lings of enemy
in chemical protective gear. The 1-3 Atk Hel Bn completed its
@4our-day -training program on individual and team NBC skills.
An OH580 (#144) was deadlined for loose tail-@-otor gearbox and
eight cracks in the tailboom; parts from #697 would be
substituted to effect repairs. This discovery led to an
Army-wide Safety of Flight Message.
'@O FEB: 1-3 Atk Hel Bn AH64's received an upgrade to the
ALQ-136 to defeat SA-8 Missiles. Unknown UAV's were reported
flying over AL QUASUMAH airfield and over the 2d Bde sector.
Units were instructed to inform tle DTAC of any suspicious
UAV's in their areas, and engage them (with small arms only)
on order from the DTAC. shortfalls in organic transportation
assets were becoming apparent, as noted in a memo from the Bde
XO to G-3 Plans: units lack transport to move authorized
personnel, MILVANS, scamps, forklifts, etc. The Bde recruested
external transportation support; retention of mlooS/MlOO91s
(scheduled for replacement by M998's) would partially
alleviate shortfalls for the movement of soldiers and some
equipment.
11 FEB: G-4 signed for 174 sets of body armor for the Bde;..
due to arrive today. E-227conducted slingload operations.
Brigade provided five RE14TT drivers 12-19 FEB to assist in
pickup of new vehicles from Dhahran.
12 FEB: Tonight'S screen mission cancelled by G-3. Attack
t difficulty in supporting 30mm
weapons fi.-ing. Aircraft parts support for this system next to
nonexistent.
13 FEB: Began receiving Electro-Optical (Eo) weather
forecasts from weatl,.er tep-s. The 7-0 forecast listed data for
AH64 infrared sensors, N'VG,s and around laser systems against
a sand bac.,round . rt was cr:-.ical-to Ali64 operations.
E-227 received a warning order to fly replacement @IOPP
Suits to !St CAV units (mission cancelled on 14 FEB). Attack
battalions prepared to engage enemy units to support the
extraction of artillery units if required during the krtillery
Raid.
14 FEB: British aircraft report three airbursts within the
city of Ha4.ar Al Batin; black smoke reported rising (1153
hrs). Later confirmed that a SCUD missile had impacted.
15 FEB: Requested Ist CAV recoi and confirm decon Sites to
support screen mission aircraft.
16 FEB: Avn Bde S-3 reports eighteen AH64 and one UH60
