       TAB D Phase IV Sustainment To 73d Medical Detachment DS/DS AAR


       IV. Sustainment:


           A. Personnel

              1. Cement City: Troop strength 83%, due to deployment
       minus 1-91R.


              2. TV Center Compound: Troop strength 83%

              3. AA Vidalia: Troop strength 83% initially, then
       increased to 100% with the 5 JAN attachment of a 9IR from the
       248th Medical Detachment.


              4. KKMC: Troop strength at 100%

              5. LBC: Troop strength jumped briefly to 117% with the
       20 JAN arrival of a 91R. By 23 JAN troop strength fell to the
       original 83% as one 91R was returned to the 248th Med Det and the
       newest 91R was reclaimed by EAC.

           B. Operations:

              1. Cement City and TV Center Compound: Unit food
       inspectors contributed to operational ration, class A ration, and
       supplement (bread, UHT milk, sodas, juices) inspection at the
       following sites:

           King Aziz Port
           24th Infantry Division
           King Fahd Military City
           Blackjack Village
           CWC-364th S and S
           12th Aviation Brigade at King Fahd International Airport
           loist Division at KFIA
           Cement City Mess

          Major food inspection issues addressed were the need for units
       to rotate their unit basic load of MRES, the lower quality of
       fresh fruits and vegetables, and the incorrect rumors that
       specific lots of MRE's were "bad".
          The Animal Care Specialist worked on an injured horse with a
       Veterinary Corps Officer and was a duty driver during this
       period. The unit VCG conducted initial sanitary inspections at
       local food establishments in Dammam and Jeddah. During this
       period there was a report of large numbers of dead sheep in the
       area of Nayriyeh, creating fears of the possible use of
       biological agents. A flight to the area v the VCO did not

       decomposing sheep carcasses. Later it was learned that a 5-10%
       annual die-off of sheep was considered normal and that dead
       animals were collected by the roadside to allow government
