              2. AA Vidalia: The 73d's mission in this area was to
        provide food inspection, animal care, and zoonotic disease
        consultation to the ist Cavalry Division, the 24th Infantry
        Division, Pulaski, and units in the area of the town of Thadi.
        This was a large geographical area, extending 50 miles south and
        75 miles north. Many of the units were well off the main supply
        route on primitive roads. The following Class I sites were
        supported:

           ist Cavalry Division-27 Main Support BN (DSU) and 3 Forward
        Support BNs (502nd, 15th, 115th)
           Pulaski-18th Quartermaster (GSU)
           24th Infantry Division-724 MSB (DSU) and 3 FSBs (24th, 224th,
        and 197th BDE)
           851st S and S
           340th S and S
           18th Aviation BDE

        The following field bakeries were supported:

           460th S and S Field Bakery
           16th Field services Company Field Bakery

           DSUs and non-divisional Class I units picked up MRES, MORES,
        and tray rations from the 18th QM on a 3 day cycle. DSUs
        distributed these rations to FSBS. Class A rations from host
        nation warehouses in Dammam were distributed through DSUS.
        Supplements were delivered by Saudi distributors directly to each
        Class I site on an approximately 3 day cycle. Veterinary
        personnel coordinated ration inspections with a Class I site's
        receipt of rations as closely as possible.
           operational rations arrived following prior inspection at the
        King Aziz Port in Dammam. Rations turned over quickly, but to
        ensure the use of oldest rations first it was recommended that
        MREs be stored by year date of pack and the oldest issued first.
        Rations on the ground for one month received surveillance
        inspections. No major problems affecting the wholesomeness of
also had a high turnover rate
        and experienced less than 1% loss, mainly due to mechanical
        damage from fork lifts.
           Class A and supplement shipments were evaluated for their
        origin from appproved sources, temperature, quality, and the
        sanitation of the conveyance. Problems with unapproved sources,
        inadequate conveyance sanitation, product deterioration, and
        inadequate product cooling were recorded on a DA Form 1232 and
        distributed to Class I site personnel and ARCENT Veterinarian.
        Repeated problems were addressed to Food Services and Support
        Operations personnel. Condemnations were recorded on ODS Form
        404-R. Condemned food was destroyed locally in burn pits by
        Class I site personnel.
           Refrigerated vans were available down to unit level for Class
        A rations and supplements. Proper sanitation of these vans was
