                B. OPERATIONS

                 As of 17 January 1991, the Group's S3 activities dramatically
            increased.  All subordinate units or an element thereof were in
            country.

                 The concept of the operation (see 244th Medical Group Desert
            Shield OPORD 001 22OOZJan 91) was as follows:

                      HO 244th Me
                      Provide C2 of trace medical assets, to include medical
            regulating, within the Riyadh Capital region,

                      50th General Hospital (1000 beds)
                      Provide hospitalization and related treatment activities
            to U.S. patients evacuated from the C2 location in an established
            Saudi facility at Riyadh Al Kharj Military Hospital, RKH,
            A/K/A-MODA. Patient decon site at hospital.

                      144th Evacuation Hospital (400 beds)
                      Provide hospitalization for all classes of U.S. patients
            evacuated from the CZ and AO. DEPMEDS equipped and located at King
            Khalid International Airport (KKIA).          Patient decon site
            independently established and operational.

                      217th Evacuation Hospital (400 beds)
                      Similar mission to 144th Evac to be located in a fixed
            facility. However, this asset was unable to utilize any facility
            as an independent hospital and its mission accomplishments will be
            commented upon below.

                      316th Station Hospital (300 beds)
                      Augmented and combined with 382nd Field Hospital to staff
            and provide hospitalization to U.S. patients evacuated from the CZ
            and AO. No independent location could be established. This asset
            was located at the Saudi Arabian National Guard (SANG) Hospital in
            Riyadh, AY%A, King Fahd.

                      382nd Field Hospital (400 beds)
nd related treatment activities
            to U. S. patients evacuated from the CZ. Located in an established
            facility with the 316th Station Hospital.

                 These hospitals were augmented with special teams/detachments
            on an as needed basis. These assets included:

                      423rd Medical Lab (VC)
                      424th Medical Lab (VE)
                      996th Medical Lab (VA)
                      Provided clinical and reference lab services to the 50th
            General Hospital     in areas of Biochemistry,         Microbiology,
            Parasitology, Serology, Immunology, Entomology and Veterinary.
