           ANNEX E (MEDICAL) TO FORSCOM DEMOBILIZATION PLAN (FDF) FOR
           OPERATION DESERT SHIELD

           1. REFERENCE. AR 40-501, Standards of Medical Fitness, AR
           600-8-101, Personnel Processing (In- and Out- and Mobilization
           Processing), Dec 89. AR 635-10, Processing Personnel for
           Separation, All Ranks Personnel Update, Mar 88.
           2. GENERAL.

              a. Purpose. To provide guidance, instructions and
           procedures for soldier medical/dental processing and treatment
           required during the demobilization process.
              b. Concept of medical/dental processing. All demobilizing
           soldiers will undergo medical/dental screening and counseling
           regarding medical diseases and health benefits procedures.
           3. SITUATION.

              a. Medical Screening.
                  (2) ARNG - Immediately before a member of the Army
           National Guard is mustered out of Federal Service, the member
           shall be examined to determine physical fitness. The record of
           this examination shall be retained by the United States (10 USC
           3502).
                  (2) USAR - There is no statutory requirement for
           members of the USAR called to active duty to undergo a medical
           examination, incidental to separation from active Army service
           (AR 40-501, paragraph 8-23).
                 (3) It is Army policy to accomplish a medical
           examination if the soldier requests it.
                 .(4) A medical exam will be conducted if, uppn.review of
           the medical record, the examination will serve the b6st.
           interests of the soldier and the government.
                 (5) All soldiers who have been in medical surveillance
           programs because of.hazardous job exposure will have a clinical
           evaluation and specific laboratory tests accomplished prior to
           separation even though a complete medical examination may not be
          required.

            b. Dental Screening.
                 (1) Dental records will be screened to verify that all
           dental care provided while on active duty is recorded in the
           dental record.
