reported open and operational at 803d Medical Group with the
2SIst Evacuation Hospital reporting 300 beds.
(i) 17 January 1991 - At 0300C hrs, the Persian Gulf War
begins with the bombing of Baghdad.
(j) IS - 19 January 1991 - Med Base America was established
with an interface between the Army 947th Clearing Platoon,
Mobile Aeromedical staging Facility (MASF) and the Aeromedical
Staging Facility (ASF). That interface was designed to
facilitate the influx of aeromedical evacuation from the Corps
areas as well as evacuation from BAC hospitals to theater rear
areas and strategic evacuation to Europe.
(k) 19 January 1991 - 343d Medical Detachment (RA) assumed EAC
area Medical support for Medevac missions.
(1) 21 January 1991 - Established initial contact with the
800th Military Police Brigade to coordinate medical support to
EPW Camp Brooklyn.
(m) 23 January 1991 - Admitted first patient (U.S.) into the
803d Medical Group's EAC hospital complex (see Figure A).
(n) 2S January 1991 - Conducted basic decontamination team
training for 30 soldiers of the Group.
(o) 26 January 1991 - Deployed medical support to EPW Camp West
(Brooklyn) consisting of a Dental Team from 123d Medical
Detachment (AI), a Clearing Platoon from the 947th MC, the 75th
Med Det (OA) for sick call to MP's, and four to six Ground
Ambulances from the 477th MC. As prisoner population expanded,
assets from 114th, 350th and 365th Evaes were added as well as
the 424th Medical Lab. Iraqi EPW medical personnel were
also utilized to augment U.S. medical personnel.
(p) 30 January 1991 - Decontamination exercise was conducted
A total of 20
patients were decontaminated.
(q) 2 February 1991 - Briefed MEDCOM Commander on the Group's
evacuation plan in support of the XVIII and VII Corps rear
Hospitals.
(r) 3 February 1991 - The Group conducted a COMEX to test its
Hospitals, Med Base America, MRO and its Evacuation
assets.
(a) 3 February 1991 - Briefed Brigadier General Frix, ARCENT
Deputy Commander on the medical evacuation plan of the 803d
Medical Group.
* Evacuation Plan identified Shortfalls in personnel for the
24-hour operation of:
33 U.S. Ambulances
22 German Ambulances
14 Ambulance Buses
MEDCOM and PERSCOM responded by providing 101 personnel
to support the vehicle augmentation.
(t) 8 February 1991 - All 1200 potential beds of the three
803d Medical Group Evacuation Hospitals became operational.
(u) 8-9 and 15-16 February 1991 - 803d Medical Group conducted
two Medical Exercises (MEDEXIS) with XVIII and VII Corps
hospitals testing the total evacuation system, medical
regulatory system and internal hospital procedures.
(v) 12 February 1991 - 803d named Base Defense operations
