a hazard to operations, installations, personnel or
material and remains unexploded either through malfunction,
design or any other cause. These non-functioned ordnance
items are also commonly called DUDS, and may or may not
function (detonate) at a later time. A UXO may be called
an EOD incident.
(4) (U) Render Safe Procedures (RSP). Actions taken
by EOD personnel to eliminate or reduce the hazards of
tTXOs/DUDs.
(5) (U) Collection Point (CP). A designated location
where arms, ammunition and other supplies are collected.
Items are segregated for intell, destruction and disposal
through supply channels.
(6) (U) Destruction of Equipment. Equipment may be
demiled through the application of explosives. Destruction
may range from not economicial to repair to unrecognizable.
Demil requirements for US equipment are stated in equipment
manuals and could be applied to similar Iraqi equipment.
d. (U) Reporting Procedures for UXO/DUD.
WARNING
UXOs/DUDs and IEDs should never be disturbed.
The slightest movement or change in attitude
could cause the item to detonate. Mark the
area with the appropriate sign per Appendix A
(Marking of Dangerous Areas) to COMUSARCENT
operations Plan Desert Storn 001, Explosive
Ordnance Disposal Support Plan or as a minimum
with engineer tape to alert personnel to stay
clear of the immediate area.
(1) (U) Keep nonessential personnel at least 100
meters from the item and make sure essential personnel are
under cover and wearing a Flak Vest and Helmet. Limit
radio transmissions within 100 meters of the item.
(2) (U) Gather as much information about the UXO/IED
as possible without endangering personnel. See Appendix B
(DUDREP). Do a good reconnaissance of the item the first
time to limit exposure time. If an entry on the DUDREP is
not applicable, or unknown, state so on the DUDREP.
(3) (U) Mark the site around the UXO/IED and direct
personnel to stay clear of the area. See Appendix A
(Marking of Dangerous Areas).
