SUBJECT: MlAl and M2A2 Bradley NET

                  (3) After vehicles have been deprocessed, they are
inventoried and hand receipted at the port, then HET'D to the NET
sites. There will be two NET sites, one at Sultan Range and one
at Faisal Range. We will need parking areas +or new vehicles,
classroom space +or tank and Bradley vehicle crews, a maintenance
building and a mess hall. All can be prefab. G3 Training should
design the facilty. They will ultimately benefit both range
complexes. During NET, they will be used intensely. There will
be a new battalion undergoing net at each range every 8 days for
a total of 56 days at Sultan Range and 40 days at Faisal Range.
This dual range effort is necessary even though it will result in
an additional requirement for NET tank crew evaluators and
Bradley crew evaluators. NET duration becomes critical. If each
company takes three days instead of two, NET +or all of Ist Cav
Div at Sultan Range would take a total of 84 days. For tank
crews, the most important part of NET is -Firing. For Bradley
crews, the most important part of NET is maintenance.

                  (4) We anticipate a need -For level hardstand. This
could be crushed rock. Given the other priorities, this will be
tough to do using organic engineers. We should ask for HO DA
funding if possible. It is necessary to teach people how to use
their new equipment in the best possible environment. There must
be enough track park space to park 80 tanks or Bradleys at Sultan
and 60 tanks or Bradleys at Faisal. We need space for a
battalion maintenance area at each range as well. 24 ID (M) has
         a good design idea.

                  (5) The range design would work -for either tank or
Bradley. Tanks must calibrate, Bradleys should zero. We
modified Table VII for both. This would incorporate
50% offense and 50% defense tasks. We need SAAB Targets and some
         berms must be built.

                  (6) Ammunition required would be:

                      - MIAI 5rounds calibration
                                  16 rounds TPDST
                                    6rounds TPT
                                 200 rounds .50 cal 4 and I
                                  200 rounds 7.62 4 and I

                      - M2A:f" 12 rounds zero
                                  64 rounds TPT
                                  32 rounds TPDST
                                  200 rounds 4 and 1 coax
