2) NBC Recon: The 2/22 (Fox) Chemical Co. will be
attached to the 2d Brigade during Phases 1, 11, 111, and IV. The
two Fox vehicles will be under the control of the Crossing Area
Commander for the purpose of determining which, if any, of the
lanes through the breach have been contaminated. They will mark
clean and contaminated routes through the broach area. The '
back-up marking plan is to have the advance parties of the first
units to follow TFs 2-16, 3-37, and 4-37 AR sample once at the
beginning, middle, and end of a lane, on order.
3) Decon: The 3/12 (Decon) Chemical Co. is attached
to 2d Bde and is available to perform a 9 vehicle deliberate
vehicle decontamination or conduct hasty vehicle spraydowns for a
typical Task Force Company. The Brigade is prepared to fight
contaminated, but must use whatever means neccessary to restore
combat power quickly and effectively. Deliberate vehicl 'e
decontamination operations are extremely difficult to support
because of the shortage of natural water sources and water
transportation assets. For this reason, try to keep the insides
of vehicles free of contamination. Do deliberate personnel
decontamination operations to get soldiers out of MOPP 4 for
extended periods of time, and limit @L*hicle decontamination to
aod-.h@ty. spraydowns-,if.,.passible. . Use..
Kit@
and MS paper to determine the extent of contamination and the
effectiveness of decontamination efforts.
b. Coodinating Instructions..
ed to recognize the FOX NBC
recon vehicle as friendly anywhere on the battlefield.
-2) The--first.unit moving through a lane unmarked.for
'contamination Vjill'suFVdy- it'-and mark' it 'a:t"'rclmah"' br ""diiz@yn.
The FOXes will do this initially. Mark clean lanes with a 2 ft..
strip of Engineer tape vertically along the portions of the
stakes in the.NBC marking set. Mark dirty lanes @ith the
standard NATO chemical marker. Place markers next to the
Engineer markers that mark the beginning of each lane. Do this
especially if contamination is found farther an or at the far end
of a lane. Indicate on the contamination marker if the chemical
is a persistent liquid agent on the lane by writing the word
"liquid" on the contamination marker. Write "vapor" on the
marker if their is only a vapor hazard in,the area. Those units
finding a "Gas" marker with "vapor" written on it may proceed on
,the lane in MOPP 4. If "liquid" is written on it, request
another lane and the reason for the request. The crossing area
command post will keep units informed of lane status in this
regard.
