                           CORPS OF ENGINEERS OBJECTIVES & PRIORITIES


                      1.   Public Health and safety: an example beingr the
                 wa.rningr for returning residents about grases from the sever
                 system possibly entering into their homes.

                      2. Focus on the collection s@tem:

                      a.   Repair screw and minor pump stations,, as by pass-
                      capability exists at the major stations - get the sewage
                      to the gulf. See Figure No. S.

                      b. Repair grravity severs and manholes - clean and assure
                      flow in these lines.
                      c. Focus attention and priority on     known and projected
                      population concentrations.
                      3. Keep the collection system flowing    to the major pump
                 stations,, or first by-pass opportunity.
                      4. Repair primary pump stations (the     "Al' series)..
                      5.   once the collection system is operational,, shift
                 priority to the repair and operation of the sewage treatment
               .plants emphasizing the following:

                           a. Primary treatment.

                           b. Secondary treatment.

                           c. Tert@ treatment.
                      6. The effluent reuse system as irrigation and perhaps
                 the use of secondary effluent for fighting oil fires.

                      7. Repair-odor control system.
