CATEGORY: Manpower and Personnel

ISSUE ITEM :

SUBJECT: Reserve Augmentation
BACKGROUND: Better identification of ARC skills prior to
call-up is essential. Unit manning documents identified
flight surgeons, general surgeons, and general duty nurses.
Upon activation we found the personnel assigned these
"generic" AFSCs were actually orthopedic surgeons,
anesthesiologists, operating room nurses, and other critical
wartime specialties.

DISCUSSION: Late identification of personnel skills resulted in moving some ARC members twice after activation. This
caused personal frustration and wasted days of productivity. We could have returned to normal operations much more
quickly had we known the true skills of the individuals we were calling up.

ACTION RECOMMENDED: Unit manning documents available to the MAJCOMs need to reflected the individuals true
skill. Primary, secondary, and tertiary AFSC fields could be established and utilized for this purpose.

SUGGESTED OPR: HQ NGB, HQ AFRES, HQ USAF/SGHR
