Case Narratives

Case Narratives are reports of what we know today about specific events that took place during the Gulf War of 1990 and 1991. These reports are from the DoD's former Office of the Special Assistant for Gulf War Illnesses (now Force Health Protection & Readiness Policy & Programs) and other government agencies. These reports are interim and will be updated pending further investigative efforts.

Environmental Exposure Reports

The former Office of the Special Assistant for Gulf War Illnesses (now Force Health Protection & Readiness Policy & Programs) is reporting on what we know today about specific events that took place during the Gulf War of 1990 and 1991. These reports focus on exposure to potential environmental hazards. These are interim reports, not final reports.

Information Papers

Information Papers are reports of what we know today about military, procedures and equipment used during the Gulf War of 1990 and 1991. The purpose of these paper's are to give the reader a basic understanding of specific procedures and equipment. This is not an investigative report, but a vehicle to provide background information.

Close-out Reports

Close-out Reports are investigations involving potential exposures of U.S. military and civilian personnel to chemical/biological warfare agents or environmental contaminants during the 1990-1991 Gulf War. The Presidential Special Oversight Board reviewed the current findings and recommended terminating any further investigation. The Board concluded that any new information was unlikely to improve our understanding of any unexplained illnesses experienced by some 1990-1991 Gulf War veterans. To bring the investigation to closure, the Board recommended the Office of the Special Assistant to present all the evidence in a close-out report. A close-out report is a summary account of an investigation.

It reports to the President through the Secretary of Defense.
