          1. (U) Intelligence on BW Threats













          2. (U) Nature of the BW Threat Agents

              a.      Anthrax

                           A bacteria which is weaponized in the spore form.
          It is disseminated as an aerosol and can be dispersed up to and
          beyond 100 km under the right METT conditions.

                  (2) (U) Anthrax bacteria is inhaled by service members
          (SM) and multiplies in the body and produces a deadly toxin.
          Symptoms (weakness,     ) appears 1-6 days after a significant
          exposure (lethal dose 50 = 8 to 10K spores). Once symptoms appear,
          it is fatal.

                  (3) (U) Can be destroyed by natural weathering, heat and
          LTV.

              b.      Botulinum Toxin

                      @ A deadly poison made from a bacteria. It is
          disseminated as a vapor, much like the dissemination
          characteristics for chemical agents. The area coverage behaves
          like chemical agents and is not as extensive as anthrax aerosol
          dissemination.

                  (2) (U) After inhalation the symptoms may appear in 1-3
          days or less depending on the exposure dose. Symptoms are blurred
          vision and difficulty in talking and swallowing.
