                                   INFORMATION PAPER

         SUB,TECT: Botulinum Vaccination Plan for operation Desert Shield

         PURPOSE: To describe the transfer of botulinum vaccine and related
         supplies to the Area of Responsibility.      The secondary purpose
         would be to educate the medical assets in the AOR on the botulinum
         vaccine and its use.


         MATERIAL:

               1. Vaccine -                   botulinum vaccine occupying 32
         cubic feet will be ready for shipment to the theater on 21
         September 1990. A limited number of additional doses of botulinum
         vaccine may be available for shipment in 1991.

               2.  Syringes, Needles, Alcohol Wipes - These supplies are
         available and will be shipped with the anthrax vaccine.

               2. Personnel have completed POM. Necessary desert uniforms,
         chemical protective garments and TA50 have been acquired.        Team
         members are ready for immediate deployment.

         TRANSPORTATION:

               1. Vaccine: The most expeditious, secure method is via the
         weekly blood flight from McGuire through Germany to Dhahran. On
         arrival in Dhahran, the 32nd MEDSOM will coordinate expeditious
         transfer of the botulinum vaccine to existing refrigerated storage.
         OTSG Logistics has coordinated botulinum vaccine transportation
         with the Air Force.

 Syr','nges, Needles and Alcohol Wipes:     OTSG Logistics
         proposes shipment via MAC priority.     On arrival in Dhahran, the
         32nd MEDSOM will coordinate transfer of the supplies to existing
         storage facilities.        UNCLASSIFIED
