                              ANECDOTE FROM KUWAIT CITY OBSERVATIONS

                An unexpected reception &waited our arrival in KUWAIT CITY.  The
             -feeling of jubilation was tangible as people of various
              nationalities crowded the intersection near Kuwait International
              Hotel.  Families approached the Marines as If their presence in the
              city was an anticipated event.  The warmth in each smile, handshake,
              greeting added a new dimension to the purpose of our arrival nearly
              seven months ago.  The ultimate expression of gratitude and
              acceptance occurred when families would hand over their small
              children to Marines to take a picture.  The band of friendship was
              instantaneous.- In one occasion, a small 2 year old boy, held by
              MSgt Thornton,: leaned over to kiss him as he was coached by his
              mother.  A captain nearby pins his bars onto the boys small cap with
              red, white, and green stripes representing the Kuwaiti flag.
