                                 CONFESSIONS IN THE FIELD

                After hearing a large number of confessions in the fielc, the
           Battalion Chaplain assigned the Marine le Our Fathers and le Haxl
           Mary's Aks@.a penance. The--Marine said, OHow do they go Father?'
                The thiplain retorted 'you should have learned that in
           Catholic. school I
                *What Catholic school, Father?'-.The Marine said, 'I'm
           Saptist'l

                                        LAST RITES

                I was called with the Bn Surgeon to the side of a severely
           wounded EPW. We put him on the hood of an MISI to transport to
           the battalion aide station.   As the Chaplain crawled on the hood
           as well to hold the EPW from falling.
                The cross I wore fell out of my T-shirt. The EPW said
           *Christian"
                wyes' I said, 'Byzantine Catholic',
                He smiled and said, 'Chaldean Catholic-.
                I gave him last rites on the hood of a' jeep going across the
           desert. His name was Jamil.
