ly capable to meet the demands of field commanders and higher
tority. operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm showed how such an
operation could be put into action given the resources. What was
lacking for the Casualty Section, initially, were the material
acquisitions needed to successfully execute its responsibilities.
G,i--en that a Casualty Section is an' integral part of the MEF 1,;hen
i'i -Conflicts it should be a part of its material pre-positioning, ready
to begin operations once the connex box is opened. Appendix I is a
list of suggested supplies.
N. COMMUNICATIONS - There was a requirement for one international
line, one TAC line, an ELMS and LAN capability, PLADS for Marine
Hospital Liaisons (required when Navy stops reporting by name,
condition and reverts to numbers) and telefax machine. The PLADS were
not used this time due to time constraints, however, they were
available if needed. The international line was most useful when
talking to HQMC and European commands. When all commands are on the
ELMS/LAN system, communications will be more accurate and timely.
In any future conflict these lines of communication for a casualty
watch must be established posthaste.
0. RETROGRADE PLANS. See Appendix J.
