          22  Feb  1991           Operation Desert Storm G-2.      Early in the
                                  morning as 1/11 and the Regimental jump CP
                                  moved forward to positions along the border,
                                  1/12 engaged what was believed to be an Iraqi
                                  armored reconnaissance force of 2 tanks and 3
                                  BMPs moving south just across the border.
                                  While awaiting Cobra Support, 1/12 destroyed
                                  one BMP and turned this force to the
                                  northwest. The engineer effort to improve
                                  firing position areas near the border
                                  continued. Ilth Marines engineers also
                                  participated in cutting nltiferous holes in the
                                  bermline just sout;i of the border in order to
                                  allow the ground -Forces to move unhindered
                                  into Kuwait. Battery "E" 2/12 continued
                                  operations with TF Troy firing four missions
                                  destroying several vehicles and observation
                                  posts. As the regiment occupied -Final
                                  positir,n areas short of ttie border, the
                                  organization -For combat was:

                                  1/11: GS, Priar4ty Calls for Fire TF
                                           Shepherd/TF Taro.
                                  3/11: DS TF Ripper.
                                  5/11: GS, Priority Calls for Fire TF
                                           Shepherd/TF Grizzly.
                                  1/12: DS TF Taro.
                                  3/12: DS TF Grizzly.

                                  Just before midnight as TF Grizzly prepared to
                                  begin clearing across the border, 3/12 and
                                  5/11 fired several long range missions on the
                                  first obstacle bL-It to destroy some Iraqi
                                  bunkers and psychologically harass the Iraqi
                                  dL-+enders. Because of the large expenditure
                                  of Rocket Assisted Projectiles (RAP) required
                                  to support all the TF Grizzly requests -For
                                  fire and the extensive anticipated
                                  requirement ;o@ RAP during the ground
                                  offensive, llth Marines instructed battalions
                                  to conserve RAP and -equested that Division
                                  impose RAP limitations on maneuver units.        The
                                  Assistant Division Commander (ADC) concurred,
                                  and just after midnight limited the
                                  e/penditLtr(- (,)@ RAP for the remainder of the
                                  night to cotinterf2re and emergency -fire
                                  missions. Specific noteworthy events
                                  included:


               0004: 3/12 AND 5ill MASS FIRES ON ENEMY DEFENSIVE POSITIONS IN
                       SUPPORT OF TF GRIZZLY.
