d. +1" Blue on blue CIWS fired on or at USS Missouri; no
injuries, firing related to battleship action during Silkworm
firing. One RPV from USS Missouri shot down by enemy AAA. Plan
is to leave USS Missouri on station to continue NGFS.
e. +&) USARCENT wants a sea port in Kuwait; USNAVCENT
planning MCM operations.
f. +6+ Late P.M. USMARCENT recap: I MEF friendly
casualties are no KIA and 15 WIA. 2D MarDiv Tiger BDE on high
ground at MEF Objective; engagements resulted in one T-72, 45
T-55, and 15 APC's destroyed. 8th Marines involved in tank
battle; results as yet unknown. lst MarDiv secured Kuwait
International Airport and MEF objective. Destroyed 100 tanks
(1/3 were T-72's). USARCENT VII Corps may have an earlier than
first light tasker to engage Republican Guard. Need to move out
if they are going to do battle before war ends. JFC-N making
progress to link up with 2D MarDiv. CG Ist FSSG states he does
not need a sea port in Kuwait to continue support.

a. t" N-2 briefed: 23 of 40 Iraqi divisions non-combat
effective; many Iraqi forces in retreat on north-south road
toward Basrah; looks like a rush hour traffic jam; Republican
Guards are only forces remaining to fight; USARCENT engaged and
moving @oward Basrah; small pockets of resistance in KTO; Iraqi
III, IV, and VII Corps non-effective; II Corps has moved to
vicinity of Basrah; relatively light AAA/SAM in KTO; numerous
(estimate 600) oil well fires throughout Kuwait.
b. tM Operations: USMARCENT is in control of Kuwait
City; MCM operations in support of NGFS cleared FSA-1 and FSA-3;
3D MAW planned CAS for today: 182 AV-BB, 240 F/A-18, and 35
A-6E sorties; USMARCENT activity: 184 Iraqi tanks and 140
vehicles destroyed.
C. f-64 Discussion ensued with respect to any plans to
locate and take out Iraqi SCUD sites, by means of ground
offensive; also, many discussions on theater draw-down and
redeployment.
d. t&) VAdm Arthur directs: at end of hostilities, wants
a snapshot of personnel (how much tooth, how much tail),
ordnance on-hand, fuel, readiness, and CasReps; order of
business for Kuwait is "how do we open ports? How do we extract
without owning the ports? Kuwaiti Navy knows how to run ports.
U.S. Army will probably stay behind for awhile. Do they need a
LOTS capability?"
