                                  AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT

                   The Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA) executed the move
              from NAF Juball to Tanajlb with little problem. The decision was
              made to move the T ire Shop, Dynam I c Component Repa I r, a II type
              Engine Shops and Hose and Tube Manufacturing work centers from the
              S.S. Curtiss to Tanajib in order to facilitate the repair cycle.
              Upon relocation, the Powerplants division was able to enhance the
              processing of 27 engines.
                   The Maintenance Department established a new Aircraft Battle
              Damage Repair     (ABDR) program for MAG-16.           The team Included
              Airframe, Hydraulic and Blade Repair personnel, and was designed
              to cover multiple sites.        MALS-16's ABDR program was used as a
              guide for all of 3rd MAW, and was determined to be the best, most
              we I I organ I zed ABDR program I n SWA by the Command I ng Of f I cer NADOC,
              Patuxent River, Maryland.
                   Aircraft Life Support System Marines continued to train Royal
              Saudi  Naval   Force personnel       In the use and repair of            their
              equipment. ALSS provided additional support to Marine Recon units
              In the form of tan flight suits and AR-5 training and maintenance.
              This support afforded the Recon units better concealment and
              chemical protection which enabled them to perform their mission
              with greater flexibility and survivability.
                   Lateral support was provided to 11 MEF squadrons to Include:
              HMA-775, HML-767, HM.M-774, HMM-261, HM.M-266, HMH-362, HWH-772 and
              HMH-464.     This   lateral   support was provided        In al I  areas of
              maintenance for six weeks prior to MALS-29 becoming fully
              operational.
                   Ground Support Equipment was provided to MAG-50 squadrons to
              Include: HK(.LA-169, HMM-268, and H.MA-773. The maintenance Marines
              also   assisted     MAG-50    personnel     in   erecting     their     Marine
              Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Shelter.
                   Non Destructive Inspection (NDI) provided outstanding support
              to all MAG-16 aircraft; performing 678 inspections accounting for
              1356 man hours for the entire month.
                   Due to the I ncreased f I I ght operat I ons I n support of Operat I on
              Desert Storm, Maintenance Admin's tracking and processing of engine
              logbooks and Scheduled Removal Component Cards Increased by 500%.
                   The Ordnance Division conducted operations from Tanajib,
              Kibrit and Lonesome Dove. Between 20-27 February, 550 pallets of
              ordnance was transported via C-130, CH-53's and LVS loads to
              Lonesome Dove In support of Operation Desert Storm.                  Ordnance
              provided lateral support to MAG-50 aircraft upon arrival             the last
              week of February.
