           C. Guidelines for returning AMALs: The actions will
assist the speediest reconstitution of Marine PWR assets (such as
      MPF) and agricultural washdowns/inspections.

                 (1) Return procedures: The first step in the embarkation
of all AMALs is cleaning, inventory and packing at the reporting
unit. The second step will be delivery to "Alpha Staging Areas"
where thorough agricultural washdowns and inspections will occur.
Expect to deliver AMALs "on-call" about 4S hours prior to the unit's
scheduled departure; do not try to take them earlier. The Alpha
Staging Area for 2d Marine Division is expected to be in the
vicinity of Camp 15. Additional details will be forthcoming.

                 (2) Be-Fare returning AMALs, segregate into groups
depending on whether the AMAL is MPF or non-MPF (considered organic
and to be embarked with unit equipment).

                 (3) Use AMAL packing lists to reconstitute as many
"complete" AMALs as possible within each group (e.g., 3 complete
636's and one drastically incomplete 636). Priority for complete
reconstitution is MPF. Additional AMAL packing lists may be
obtained from MedLogCo or the Division Surgeonos Office.

                 (4) AMAL Augmentation Items

                      (a) do not include these items in the MPF AMALs; the
additional material may cause embarkation problems on the MPS ships,
and will be a major confounding factor when the ships enter the MPF
      Maintenance Cycle.

                      (b) do include these items in the AMALs embarked with
units, including extra bulk resupply. Get extra containers if
needed from PP&P. These items will be the basis for AMAL review and
      supplementation.

                 (5) Expired/expiring Consumables

                      (a) MPF AMALs: if possible, replace with items that
have at least 18 months remaining shelf-life. Otherwise, identify
expired/expiring consumables on the inventory list that accompanies
the AMAL to MedLogCo/Al Jubayl for later replacement or notation as
      Shel+-Life Extension Program (SLEP).

                      (b) Organic AMALst items may be pulled and turned in
to MedLogCo/Al Jubayl for destruction. Alternatively, the CO, 2d
MedLogCo has stated that these items may be kept in the AMALs
(identified on inventory lists) for appropriate destruction or entry
in the SLEP upon return to Camp Lejeune.

                 (6) Return with each incom2l2t@ AMAL a listing a+
*ficient items and inoperable or damaged equipment.

                 (7) NO damaged, opened or partially used consWMgt1pg will
      be returned to CONUS.

                                   UNCLASSIFIED
