of the follow-on assault by the 6th Marine Regiment. His actions were
critical to the commencement of breaching operations and directly
influenced the success of the offensive operations conducted by the 2d
         Marine Division.
Later on G-Day Capt Marina led his company through the Iraqi
mine-Fields in trace of 2d Battalion, 2d Marines. Exiting Lane Blue
4 under enemy fire, Capt Marino quickly realized that 2/2's right -Flank
was exposed as well as the entire breach area. Informing the Regimental
Commander of the exposed flank, he deftly maneuvered his unit to cover
2/2. Upon nearing Regimental Objective B, his force came under intense
enemy small arms, heavy machine gun, 23mm and 82mm mortar fire. Rapidly
sizing the situation, Capt Marino established a base of -Fire with one
platoon and ordered a second platoon to envelop Objective B from the
southeast. Capt Marino expertly controlled supporting arms for his
units' attack, including 81mm mortars, artillery fires, and air
support. His rapid actions during this period while exposed to enemy
direct and indirect fires resulted in the destruction of four D-30
howitzers and the capture of over 350 enemy prisoners. Furthermore, the
rapid seizure of Regimental Objective B protected the Regiment's
previously exposed right flank, thereby allowing both 1/6 and 2/2 to
continue the assault on the enemy.
