courageous personal comportment again inspired his men, giving the
battalion's drive significant velocity. During the first day,
          Company B captured over 600 EPW's from the Iraqi 7th and 14th
Infantry Divisions as well as destroying a reinforced platoon of
          T-55 Tanks.
Shortly -a-Fter crossing the LOD on G+1, Captain Gauthier
engaged several armored targets to his direct front while
maintaining visual contact with Tiger Brigade on his left. Within
an hour visibility had been reduced to 200 meters as a result of
fog and burning enemy vehicles. Captain Gauthier quickly moved his
command vehicle forward well within tank main gun range and
personally directed several tank engagements. This total disregard
for his personal safety insured calm on what could have been a
confusing battlefield, and ispired his Marines to press forward.
Before consolidating in the defense, the company had destroyed
several tanks at close range and forced numerous Iraqi soldiers to
          surrender.
Throughout the remainder of this period, Captain Gauthier
continued to display unbelievable gallantry and courage. His
relentless drive for mission accomplishment set the tone for the
battalion's success. Captain Gauthier personally went about the
battlefield, well within range of enemy small arms fire, at great
risk to his life, to direct and inspire his men. His coolness and
complete composure under enemy fire, steadied his men and kept them
on course. During the battalion push north to Al-Jahra he
skillfully maneuvered Company B, capturing numerous enemy prisoners
of war, engaged and destroyed T-55 and T-62 tanks, and BMPs from
the Iraqi Sth Mechanized Brigade, 3d Armored Division, as well as
T-55 tanks and MTLB armored personnel carriers from the Ist
Mechanized Infantry Division. The gallantry and intrepidity
displayed by Captain Gauthier ensured the success of Company B, lst
Battalion, 6th Marines and contributed significantly to the overall
success of the liberation of Kuwait.
