          Ci.viiian rescue squads may be organized to locate civilian
          wounded and'bring them to first aid stations for emergency
          treatment, sorting, identification, tagging and preparation for
          evacuation. The medical care of displaced persons, refugees,
          and evacuees is usually the,responsibility of civil.affairs
          personnel in coordination with local authorities.
                 (2) @Military operations may cause the destruction
          of civilian medical facilities. Should this occur, other
          buildings or structures may be converted for medical use after
          appropriate sanitation procedures and modifications have been
          made. These structures could include schools, theaters,
          auditoriums, barracks and hotels. The landing force may
          requiaition'civilian hospitals for its use only temporarily and
          only in case of urgent necessity. When this occurs,
          arrangements must be mad.e for the care and treatment of
          civilian patients.

             d. (U) Medical and Sanitary Supplies

                  (1),: (U) it is necessary to plan in advance for
          sufficient ziaedical'and sanitary supplies for civilian use.
          These supplies should'i@clu'de certiiin,vaccin'es-,' drug
                                                               s, hospital
          and sanitary supplfes'in'@ufficieht.quantitV to  satisfy the
          population needs t@ort"a'@erioa 6f at lea'st'thir'ty days.

                  (2) (U) Civilian medical supplies should be stored in
          Suitable structures which are accessible to transportation
          facilities. These suppli6s must be protected from theft.and
          misuse. Special precautions should be taken in the storage and
          distribution of narcotics, antibiotics and alcohol, As soon as
          possible, a centrally controlled distribution system should be.
          established.

      5. (U) COORDINATING INSTRUCTIONS. Close coordination should
          be maintained at all times with appropriate public health
          authorities.
