upon receiving a mission, they quickly organized and were
helicoptered to the site. They searched about 300 bunkers and
tasked with eight recovery missions. Searches were conducted
tactically in close proximity to manuever units, minefields, booby
traps and unexploded ordnance.
The last set of remains on March 10, the Observer in an OV-10
Bronco spotter airplane.
The Graves Registration unit processed a total of about 150
sets of remains -- 60 Prior to the war. The Iraqi remains were
initially turned over to the Saudis, but later buried at the site
they were found in rows of 10.
They lost one member from the original 12, around the 17 of
January, after it was concluded that he wasn't handling it well.
By 13 March, Fleet Hospital Five was packing gear and the Graves
personnel were packing as well. Their mission had been transferred
to the reserve crew at Fleet Hospital-15 also in aubail.
