                             Chronology of Significant Events

             I October 1990     Tactical communications established with
                                ARCENT for coordinating air shipments of blood
                                in AO.

             e October 1990     SOP established for lst Marine Expeditionary
                                Force blood program.

             5 October 1990     Pre-hostility level of blood increased at UBMC
                                Hospital to support CSSD deployment in AO.

             9 October 1990     Additional refrigeration units and IOK
                                generators acquired at BSU (KAA). Whole blood
                                storage capacity increased to 1600 units.

            10 October 1990     CDR Jacobs attended a medical meeting in
                                Rhyiad, Saudi Arabia to discuss theater
                                Emergency Response System, Contingency Mass
                                Casualty Response, and Inter/Intra Theater
                                Casualty Evacuation.

            13 October 1990     (3emeral Support SroLip One, Ist FSS(31
                                reorganized, with Health Service Support
                                Element falling back under (3-3.

            16 October 1990     Liaison visit made to USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) by
                                CDR Jacobs and HMC Ashlee.

            18 October 1990     Foxtrot Company, Medical Detachment, Surgical
                                Support Company established forward with CSSD
                                141 at Manifa Bay with support operations
                                assistance through B-3 and (3SG-l. Medical
                                regulating section established.

            20 October 1990     Blood Bank storage refrigerators acquired by
                                CSSD 111 and CSSD 141. New, state-of-the-art
                             refrigerators are capable of storing
                                approximately 500 units of liquid blood at
                                each location.

                                CDR Jacobs coordinated a communications
                                exercise conducted to test the medical
                                regulating nets between CSSD III, 141, the
                                DASC, USMC Hospital, and Fleet Hospital 5.
