c. u@g* The thrust of medical evacuation will be primarily to
maintain hospital units at no more than 60% of available beds. This
will be done primarily to allow units to displace for survivability on
the battlefield. Displacement of units will be at the discretion of the
Group/Brigade commanders who will weigh survivability vs the criticality
of beds available for treatment.
5. (U) MEDICAL REGULATING
a. The thrust of medical regulating will be to regulate
casualties out of the combat zone into COMNZ beds. Priority of
casualties going to the EVAC hospitals in the DHAHRAN area will be those
casualties who will return to duty within the prescribed evacuation
policy. Maximum use of clearing company cots will be made to take DNBI
injuries, and to facilitate the movement of hospital units.
b. -ttr One AELT will be prepositioned with each of the medical
group/brigade headquarters. These AELTs will have the responsibility of
coordinating with the Brigade AELT for evacuation missions. The PAD
officers, through their operations sections, will coordinate with the
Group MROs for the evacuation of casualties. Group MROs will in turn
coordinate with the Brigade MROs who will consolidate the requests and
coordinate with EAC.
C. (U) The JMRO, under the supervision of the USCENTCOM surgeon,
will regulate the movement of patients out of the USCENTCOM AOR.
d. 44th Medical Brigade will act as ARCENT MRO until the EAC
is fully established. The Brigade MRO will regulate the movement of
patients into EAC medical facilities. Evacuation for division near area
to forward hospitals will be primarily by Army aircraft. Evacuation
from Corps medical facilities forward to facilities in the EAC area will
be by US Air Force aircraft whenever possible.
e. 44th Medical Brigade is responsible for medical regulating
of USARCENT patients in the XVIII ABC AOR.
6. (U) PREVENTIVE MEDICINE
a. (U) A vigorous and adequate preventive medicine program(s)
will be established and monitored by unit field sanitation teams. It is
imperative that every company sized element or larger depart home
station with a trained field sanitation team because of the poor
conditions existing in the ARABIAN PENINSULA. and the large number of
endemic diseases in the area. Particular attention will be given to:
