1. Unit commanders must ensure all personnel deploying in
support of Operation Desert Shield arrive in country with the
following medical chemical defense material in their
possession:
a. 3 x MKI NAAKS per individual NSN: 6505-01-174-
9919
b. 2'x NAPP sets per individual NSN- 6505-Cil-179-
79()3
2. The NAPP consists.of 3dmg Pyridostigmine Bromide tablets
(21 per pack) whicl@ are packed in a blister pack. x packs
per person will equal 42 tablets, enough for..2 weeks.
3. Personnel will be told when to start taking the tablets
through command channels. Once begun, personnel will take 1
tablet every 8 hours. I+ a dose is missed, do not take 2
tablets at once, just start again with 'I tablet every 8
hours. Taking 2 tablets at once does not provide additional
protection and could cause diarrhea, st,,in rash, muscle
weakness, cramps, twitching or dimness of vision. If these
symptoms occur, stop taking the tablets and seek medical help
ASAP.
4. The NAPP is a supplement to treatment, not a treatment
+or nerve agent. You must still use the MK I NAAK to treat
nervd agent poisoning.
5. Sustainment stocks for these items can be
boxed/p.alletized and loaded for movement with other unit
"tion
equipment to be deployment in support of oq?ra., Desert
Shield.
6. Studies indicate that the shelf-life for these items is
one year under desert conditions in theater.
